Rhinoplasty: Before and After
Every nose is unique because of gender, ethnicity and age. Dr. Richard Zoumalan has the experience and artistic abilities to craft facial enhancements that look, feel and function naturally. Take a look through the results Dr. Zoumalan has achieved through rhinoplasty surgery.
This young lady wanted to have a straighter nose a better looking profile. You can see in her photo from the front that her nose is deviated to the right. On profile, she has an over-rotated nose. She also had breathing problems due to a deviated septum and large inferior turbinates. The deviated septum also made her nose more crooked. She underwent rhinoplasty, septoplasty, and turbinate reduction. You can see the improvement of her nose from all angles. Even her nostril appearance improved and become more symmetric.
This young woman wanted to have her bump improved as well as have more elegant nose to complete her profile appearance. She also had continued breathing and sinus problems which made her leave drainage for much of the year. She underwent Rhinoplasty, Septoplasty, and Turbinate reduction. She wanted a straight profile with a minor supra-tip break. This means that the tip comes off the dorsum (top of the nose) minimally. The tip was also rotated upwards in a very natural way. This provides a very elegant and natural appearance.
This young woman with a combination of Asian and Caucasian features wanted her nose to be improved from all angles but still retain an ethnic appearance which would fit the rest of her face. She wanted to have her bump removed, have a small amount of tip rotation, and she wanted a more narrow and elegant tip. She underwent rhinoplasty. Her nose was designed specifically to keep in mind that it had to fit her Asian and Caucasian features, which is a challenge. She is very happy and one can see how the nose fits the face.
This patient underwent rhinoplasty and chin implant. This is her before and after at 1 ear. Before rhinoplasty/chin implant (left side), she had an overprojected nose, and her weak chin made her nose look even longer. She underwent a deprojection procedure which decreased the length of her nose. This is a complex procedure which requires natural restructuring of nasal cartilages. She also had small bump removed. She had a small chin implant placed which helped her retain her feminine features well. Her result is natural and fits her face arguably better than before surgery.
This patient underwent rhinoplasty, septoplasty, and turbinate reduction. She had both breathing and cosmetic concerns. You can see the improvement in her nose from all angles.
This patient underwent rhinoplasty and chin implant to balance her entire profile. Dr. Zoumalan is a world-recognized expert at profile management.
The young woman had rhinoplasty, septoplasty, and turbinate reduction to help with her cosmetic and functional nasal concerns. She wanted her bump removed to achieve a natural beautiful straight line. She also wanted to retain her ethnic appearance. Natural Structure Rhinoplasty techniques were used to achieve this result. She also had septoplasty and turbinate reduction at the same time. You can see her natural transformation here.
This young woman wanted her bump removed and to have a very natural looking nose. She underwent rhinoplasty by Dr. Zoumalan. Due to her ethnic features, pre-operative profile imaging allowed her to communicate with Dr. Zoumalan that she preferred a straight profile as much as possible. Giving her a scooped look would not look natural. Her new profile was designed specifically for her face and to match her features. Her tip had to be restructured as well, in order to match her new profile.
This young lady wanted her profile improved by removing the bump as well as minimally lifting the tip. She wanted to maintain a nose that would fit her features. At the same time, for profile management and to make the nose have a smaller appearance, she had a chin implant placed at the same time as her rhinoplasty. The chin implant balanced her nose and profile in a very natural way. Chin implants are very commonly performed at the same time as rhinoplasty to improve the profile in a dramatic way. You can also see that her nose is straighter. Before surgery, she had a reverse C-shaped nose. Dr. Zoumalan is extra careful to maximize the amount of straightening of crooked noses.
This woman came to the office complaining of a long and asymmetric tip. She underwent rhinoplasty and septoplasty to correct this. Shortening a elongated nose is a very difficult and complex procedure. Dr. Zoumalan performs this on a regular basis. This patient required complex cartilage restructuring to allow her tip to set back to an appropriate length for her face. All these measurements were performed in the office pre-operatively in order to have the optimal tip length (projection) for her face. Also when a tip is shortened, the dorsum (bump) has to be further removed. Otherwise, the bump will appear larger. So this was done as well. In addition, she had asymmetric nasal tip cartilages that had to be made more symmetric. She also suffered from breathing problems, and septoplasty helped her as well.
This young woman wanted her bump removed but have an elegant straight profile. She also wanted her tip slightly narrowed. She has features of her face that would do well with this look. Dr. Zoumalan performed rhinoplasty as well as septoplasty and turbinate reduc1on to help with her breathing you can see the improvement of her nose from the front. It is narrower and more slender without looking pinched. Her profile is also tremendously improved.
This patient wanted to have cosmetic improvement of her hump. She did not want any significant tip work. You can see her aesthetic improvement after closed (endonasal) rhinoplasty by Dr. Zoumalan.
This young woman disliked her large bump and hanging columella. The columella is the portion of the nose that hangs below the nostrils centrally. She also was under-rotated. This means that her tip sits too low for her face. Also her nose was very wide before surgery. Dr. Zoumalan sculpted her nose in a way to still retain her ethnic identity, but allowed her face to be more pleasant and elegant with a rhinoplasty. This patient was exceedingly happy, as one can actually see her improved confidence even in these before and after photos.
This young Hispanic female wanted a smaller nose. You can see her large dorsum that required significant dorsal reduction. Because her reduction was so dramatic, she required considerable middle-third restructuring to ensure that her contours would be smooth. She also had thick skin which made the operation more difficult. You can see the dramatic, yet natural, improvement from all angles.
This young woman underwent rhinoplasty to shorten her nose, reduce her hump, and get her nose straighter. You can see the improvement from her nose from all angles. She has very thin skin which is not forgiving. Every shadow and imperfection can be seen, so a lot of care went into making sure there were no areas that would create shadows after she heals. She was also able to breathe better after the surgery.
This Caucasian female underwent rhinoplasty by Dr. Zoumalan. She wanted a shorter nose and her bump removed. Shortening long noses is a specialty of Dr. Zoumalan. He performs lower cartilage restructuring in a way to get natural contours that breathe well. This is part of his Natural Structure Rhinoplasty technique to deliver a nose that fits one’s face. This patient is tall, so the nose was designed also to fit with her slender stature.
This patient underwent rhinoplasty to make remove her hump and narrower her tip and nostrils. You can see how the procedure made her nose more feminine and her face more elegant.
This Caucasian female underwent rhinoplasty by Dr. Zoumalan. She wanted her bump removed and to have a more feminine nose. You can see the natural transformation here.
This young female underwent rhinoplasty to remove her bump and do a minor amount of tip work. You can see her new dorsum fits her face well and she has a natural appearance with no signs of surgery. The nose was designed specifically for her face by Dr. Zoumalan. Natural Structure Rhinoplasty principles were used.
This woman is an athlete and had endured multiple soccer‐related injuries to her nose which left her with a nasal bump and inability to breathe through her nose. She wanted a natural appearing nose which would breathe better. You can see that she has a hint of elevation on her profile, which some patients prefer. This creates a very natural transformation with no signs of surgery. She is able to breathe better now and have less nasal and sinus issues.
This patient wanted her bump removed and her tip raised (rotated) upwards. She underwent rhinoplasty and you can see her natural transformation. She met with Dr. Zoumalan and planned how high she wanted her dorsum as well as how much tip rotation she wanted. After surgery, her result was even better than the imaging estimated.
This young lady had rhinoplasty, septoplasty, turbinate reduction, and sinus surgery in one procedure to help with cosmetic issues of the nose, breathing issues, as well as chronic sinus infections (chronic sinusitis). Dr. Zoumalan did all of these procedures to create a nose and sinuses that breathe and look better. She also has had no infections since the procedure.
This patient wanted rhinoplasty to for overall improvement in her nose. She underwent bump removal and tip work to reshape the overall lower third of her nose as well.
This patient underwent rhinoplasty to remove her bump and lift her tip. You can see the extent of natural tip rotation achieved by Dr. Zoumalan.
This patient underwent rhinoplasty to have a straighter nose as well as improve the profile. You can see how much straighter she is from the frontal view. All other angles are improved as well. Her breathing also improved tremendously after the procedure.
This patient underwent rhinplasty to thin out her nose as well as improve the appearance of her bump (dorsum). You can see improvement in all angles. These noses can be difficult to sculpt because of thick skin, but Dr. Zoumalan has techniques that can really help maximize the ability to make noses smaller in a natural way.
This patient underwent rhinoplasty to improve the overall shape her nose. She wanted a very natural look, and you can see how she improved at all angles in a very natural way.
This young woman wanted subtle rhinoplasty to make her nose a little smaller. You can see how Dr. Zoumalan shaped her tip as well as removed a small bump.
This young woman wanted natural appearing rhinoplasty to help with the overall appearance of her nose including her bump. Dr. Zoumalan created a natural appearing nose that looks and feels natural.
This young lady had natural structure rhinoplasty by Dr. Zoumalan to improve reduce her bump (bony and cartilaginous dorsum) to improve the appearance of her nose in a natural way.
This young lady had endonasal (closed) rhinoplasty to improve the overall appearance of her nose. You can see the improvement in all angles. This is a minimally invasive approach to rhinoplasty. Dr. Zoumalan does both open and closed rhinoplasty.
This young woman had repair of nasal fracture, rhinoplasty, septoplasty, as well as dermabrasion of right alar (nostril) scar. She had a previous trauma to the face and underwent all these procedures at the same time using natural techniques.
This young woman of African-American origin wanted to have subtle improvements in her nose to have a nose which fit her face well. You can see improvement in her dorsum (bump) on the after images. Dr. Zoumalan performs rhinoplasty on African-Americans in a way to retain identity and fit one's face.
This is a young Middle Eastern woman who had previous rhinoplasty. She then suffered a fall from a scooter while on vacation in Mexico. Dr. Zoumalan provided months of wound and incision care before he performed functional and comsetic nasal surgery. You can see that even after the incisions healed, the nose was crooked and the tip was asymmetric. Because of the combination of trauma and previous surgery, she had little cartilage to reconstruct the nose, so complex cartilage grafting techniques were used (rib, costal). he entire lower third of her nose had to be re-built because existing cartilage was destroyed. she had to have dermabrasion for the incision later on as well, which improved the appearance of her scars greatly. She is doing well and breathing well now.
This patient underwent rhinoplasty and septoplasty for combination of breathing and cosmetic improvement. She wanted to have a shorter and less prominent appearing nose. Shortening noses is an advanced technique done by Dr. Zoumalan regularly.
This patient is one of three sisters who had rhinoplasty with Dr. Zoumalan. He had cosmetic rhinoplasty to improve the bump and tip.
This is the second of three sisters who underwent rhinoplasty by Dr. Zoumalan. You can see the improvement in all aspects of the nose.
This is the youngest of 3 sisters who had rhinoplasty with Dr. Zoumalan. She wanted her bump and tip improved as well. She underwent closed endonasal rhinoplasty.
This patient underwent rhinoplasty to make her nasal ridges improved as well as to narrow her nose to let it match her face better. You can also see improvements in her profile and three quarter views.
This patient underwent nonsurgical rhinoplasty to help with her bump and tip. This was done with a single syringe in one sitting. She also had chin augmentation with fillers as well.
This patient underwent rhinoplasty to feminize her nose. The nose was narrowed, shortened, and the bump was reduced.
This patient had a traumatic injury to her nose. She had collapse of the right side, and inability to breathe, as well as a severe depression on that side. She underwent reconstructive rhinoplasty to help improve breathing and cosmetic function.
This patient underwent cosmetic rhinoplasty to remove her bump and narrow her throughout. She also had alar base (nostril reduction) reduction to narrow her lower third.
This woman had endonasal rhinoplasty to help define and lift her tip. A small piece of septal cartilage was inserted through an endonasal (inside the nose) incision to improve the tip.
This young lady had rhinoplasty and septoplasty to help with cosmetic and breathing aspects of her nose. She had thick skin, and deprojecting was done to bring her tip back and her dorsum (bump) down.
This young woman underwent rhinoplasty to narrow her nose and remove her bump. You can see the more feminine nature of her nose after surgery. She also had nostril reduction.
This is a crooked nose that Dr. Zoumalan performed and got straighter and more uniform. You can see the drastic difference.
This young lady had revision rhinoplasty to improve the overall appearance of her nose as well as give her better breathing. You can see how much straighter her nose is after surgery. You can also see improvements of the shape from all angles. Her breathing and sinus issues improved as well.
This patient underwent septoplasty, turbinate reduction, and vestibular stenosis repair. She had severe breathing problems and sinus issues which were all improved with surgery. You can see her improvement in these photos.
This patient had thin skin which made her rhinoplasty more challenging. Thin skin is not forgiving, and any imperfections are easily seen. This patient had a wide tip but she had a septum that was fractured into the nose. Dr. Zoumalan did a reconstructive rhinoplasty to improve her both cosmetically and functionally. She was able to breathe tremendously better after surgery as well.
This woman also had a crooked nose after rhinoplasty. Dr. Zoumalan restructured her cartilages and placed the septum midline, which straightened her nose greatly.
Although this patient had previous rhinoplasty, she still had a crooked nose, and she wasn't happy with the shape. Dr. Zoumalan corrected both of these issues and was able to get her nose straighter and narrow the tip, which were her goals.
This woman had a ridge of nasal bone that was left after rhinoplasty. She also wanted her tip lifted. Dr. Zoumalan performed a revision rhinoplasty to shave down this ledge of bone and rotate her tip upwards.
This Middle-Eastern female underwent rhinoplasty to help with her crooked nose, high bridge (bump) and ptotic/low tip. You can see the improvement in her overall symmetry and profile. These photos were taken a couple weeks after surgery and shows how quickly the recovery can be for patients who have undergone rhinoplasty by Dr. Zoumalan. He uses a Rapid Recovery Process. Almost all patients return to work/school 1 week after surgery.
This young woman wanted a natural appearing improvement in her nose without having the look of surgery. Dr. Zoumalan and the patient met and imaged an idea of what she wanted. Based on this, he performed rhinoplasty to reduce her bump minimally to a straight line with a very fine supratip break. She also had significant breathing problems her whole life, and he improved this at the same time with septoplasty. She also had a mole removed from her right cheek at the same time.
This patient wanted her tip elevated and bump removed. She was an athlete and had undergone multiple previous traumatic injuries to her nose, so her tip had lost support and dropped. Dr. Zoumalan re-established support for her nose in a way so that her tip stopped dropping. The after result is expected to last a lifetime, given that the restructuring was done in a way to maintain the tip long-term. She also wanted a narrower tip. You can see the improvement in her tip width on the frontal view.
The crooked nose is very challenging surgery for rhinoplasty surgeons. Dr. Zoumalan uses every single maneuver available to get noses as straight as humanly possible. This patient had a very crooked nose, presumably due to an injury in the past. She required complete restructuring of the nose to allow for straighter nose. The after photo was taken 2 years after surgery, which shows that her healing went well. These are very challenging cases, and the patient must understand that no surgeon can guarantee a perfectly straight nose due to healing. But Dr. Zoumalan uses every tool available to maximize the chances. You can also see how the profile improved as well.
This is another example of a crooked nose. Straightening of the middle and lower third of the nose is very challenging due to the fact that the structures are comprised of cartilage as well as soft tissue. Sculpting these cartilages has to keep in mind that the cartilage likes to go back to where it was before. Dr. Zoumalan uses special maneuvers to make the cartilage lose this memory and maximize the chances that the cartilages will stay in this new position. The after photo was taken one year after surgery. You can see the dramatic change in the tip.
This woman wanted her bump removed and to have a more elegant tip. This close-up shows how elegant the tip can become after rhinoplasty. She needed more tip length ,so this was performed with a caudal septal extension graft to allow for more tip length, which allowed it to become more narrower. At the same time, the bump was smoothed out. Dr. Zoumalan preferred this straight profile to a scooped one. This is a more natural look than a scooped nose, especially for this patient.
Some patients only want tip rhinoplasty. They only want to have their tip down-sized. This patient had mostly a tip rhinoplasty to sculpt her tip. She had a minor bump that was also shaved, but most of the work was on the tip. Dr. Zoumalan will discuss your goals with you. It may be that you only want your tip improved. This is a shorter surgery with less healing time.
This young lady had rhinoplasty to improve her nasal hump. You can see the improvement also in her tip. She had a lot of cartilage depressions that were also improved with complex grafting.
This young woman had two previous rhinoplasties by other surgeons. The second operation by another surgeon involved the use of rib graft. Dr. Zoumalan performed revision rhinoplasty without the use of rib graft. He was able to find cartilage in her spetum to help restructure her nose. Before surgery, she had a pollybeak deformity, which means that her septum is higher than her nasal bones, which appears unnatural. After surgery, her profile is greatly improved, as are her other views.
This patient wanted tip narrowing. You can see the subtle improvement in the lower third of her nose. She also wanted to have a more symmetric middle third, which was achieved with surgery.
This make had rhinoplasty to improve the appearance of his nose. You can see how much straighter he is. You can also see the improvement in his profile and three quarter views. He still has a masculine appearance after surgery. The procedure also helped him breathe better.
Middle Eastern endonasal rhinoplasty. No external incisions were used. This male wanted to improve his profile but still retain a masculine nose.
For Middle-Eastern males, Dr. Zoumalan purposefully leaves a hint of elevation of the dorsum to retain a masculine appearance.
This young Middle-Eastern male wants to have his nose improved cosmetically at the same time as improving his nasal breathing. He underwent rhinoplasty, septoplasty, turbinate reduction, and vestibular stenosis repair. This helped improve his breathing and cosmetic appearance at the same time. You can see that his ethnic identity was not lost in the procedure, and his new nose fits his face excellently.
This gentleman wanted to have his bump reduced in a natural way. Dr. Zoumalan left a hint of elevation of his dorsum to preserve his ethnic features.
The crooked, asymmetric tip due to septal deviation is a challenge for the rhinoplasty surgeon. This patient had a crooked lower (caudal)septum. It required complete restructuring with complex grafting to get it straight. Ultimately, the patient got tremendous breathing improvement as well as cosmetic improvement.
This Middle-Eastern male had rhinoplasty by Dr. Zoumalan to improve the shape of his nose. He wanted a straighter nose and to have the nose reduced. you can see how much more symmetric the nose is after surgery. he wanted to retain his masculine appearance. He also had severe nasal obstruction which was helped by septoplasty and turbinate reduction. Natural Structure Rhinoplasty principles were used to give a natural result.
This young man wanted his profile improved, but wanted to retain masculine features, so his rhinoplasty was performed in a very natural way. Dr. Zoumalan and the patient agreed on the surgical result using pre-operative imaging to help plan the result.
This man was always self-conscious about the appearance of his nasal base. Dr. Zoumalan did a septoplasty and nasal tip procedure to help make his nose more symmetric. He was able to breathe much better after this as well
This patient had cosmetic and breathing complaints that were improved with rhinoplasty, septoplasty, and turbinate reduction. He had a crooked nose that was asymmetric and had many irregularities. he also had a hanging columella. All these features were improved with the rhinoplasty. He also had severe breathing and sinus issues that were improved greatly.
This patient had experienced previous trauma and wanted some minor improvements but didn't want to have the appearance of a major change of his nose. Many males feel this way. They want some improvement without having signs of surgery. This surgery accomplished this goal, along with improving his overall breathing, which was an issue for him because of a very active lifestyle.
This is an example of how a crooked nose can be improved by surgery by Dr. Zoumalan. Not only did this amount of crookedness present a cosmetic issue, but it caused a severe breathing problem for the patient. Rhinoplasty and septoplasty improved both issues greatly for him.
Dr. Zoumalan can improve a droopy tip to allow the nasal bump to be less noticeable. This is an example of a male who underwent rhinoplasty to improve his droopy tip. Now the bump is less prominent.
This patient underwent revision rhinoplasty using a closed (endonasal) approach with no external incisions. He had a previous rhinoplasty which removed too much bone and left the septum too high. Dr. Zoumalan used cartilage to place a large dorsal augmentation graft on the bony area as well as to remove the extra septum. The patient also had severe breathing problems after the first surgery, and Dr. Zoumalan performed a septoplasty and turbinate reduction to help with this as well. This is the patient at 1 year.
This Latino male underwent rhinoplasty and chin implant by Dr. Zoumalan, as well as septoplasty and turbinate reduction for better breathing. He wanted a more slender nose that was straighter. He wanted the bridge/bump to be lowered as well. You can see how much his nose improved from all angles, yet it still matches his facial features. His nose is straighter and his tip is more elegant. He still retains masculine features and a natural appearing face. he did not require a large implant, because his chin already had decent length. But the chin implant balanced everything for him, Males often prefer to get a chin implant at the same time of surgery to give them a stronger presence.
This Asian male had a short nose with a large bump. In the operating room, Dr, Zoumalan found very weak nasal tip cartilages that had to be restructured using a septal extension graft, which is a complex maneuver that extends and elongates the tip. The weak cartilages give the impression that the hump is large, but it is actually the weak tip that makes the bump look bigger. One can see the improvement in his nose while still retaining his ethnic attributes. Dr. Zoumalan and the patient used preoperative image morphing of the profile to decide how the patient's nose would best look after surgery. This is how the plan was decided.
Recovery after rhinoplasty can be very quick. Most patients return to work or school one week after surgery with little signs of surgery. This is an example of a patient who had an excellent result after surgery. You can see how his tip was droopy before surgery and how this was improved greatly with surgery bu Dr. Zoumalan.
Dr. Zoumalan is an expert in Middle- Eastern noses. This close up image of a Persian male who underwent rhinoplasty shows how he can retain a small bump on these noses to still give the impression of a masculine nose that fits a Middle-Eastern face. The decision of how high to leave the bridge was made before surgery using imaging (morphing).
